“Planet of the Apes” (1968), directed by Franklin J. Schaffner, is a landmark science fiction film adapted from Pierre Boulle’s 1963 novel, with a screenplay by Michael Wilson and Rod Serling. The story follows astronaut George Taylor (Charlton Heston) and his crew, who crash-land on a mysterious planet after a 2,000-year journey through space. They discover a world where intelligent, talking apes dominate a society that oppresses mute, primitive humans.
