The Jazz Age comes alive once again as the Capitol Center Jazz Orchestra expands to twenty eight musicians as they pay homage to Paul Whiteman, “King of Jazz”. On February 12, 1924, The Whiteman Orchestra introduced Rhapsody in Blue featuring the composer, George Gershwin, at the piano in a concert titled “An Experiment in Modern Music”. The Capitol Center Jazz Orchestra, Clayton J. Poole, Music Director, will perform this original version of The Rhapsody in Blue with the internationally renowned piano soloist Mr. Frederick Moyer at the keyboard. The concert will be a collage of Whiteman’s music which spanned from 1919-1949 and featured such jazz icons as Mildred Bailey, Billie Holiday, Bix Beiderbecke, The Modernaires, Tommy & Jimmy Dorsey, and many others.
