The romantic composer Edward Elgar is widely regarded as the first important figure in the English musical life after Henry Purcell. He became world famous with his Enigma variations. In addition, he wrote an impressive violin concerto and in later life a passionate Cello concert. This masterpiece is played by the renowned Dutch cellist Pieter Wispelwey.

If opening sounds the hugely successful Overture ' the birds ' by Dutch composer Alphons Diepenbrock. The French maestro Yan Pascal Tortelier decision this concert with pastoral romance. The lovely Second Symphony of Johannes Brahms is all blue skies, babbling Brooks, sunshine and cool green shade.
