The romantic composer Edward Elgar is widely regarded as the first important figure in the English musical life after Henry Purcell. He became world famous with his Enigma variations. In addition, he wrote an impressive violin concerto and in later life a passionate Cello concert. This masterpiece is played by the renowned Dutch cellist Pieter Wispelwey.
