The 4th Witch is a multimedia theater production by Chicago-based Manual Cinema that reimagines Shakespeare's Macbeth through the eyes of a young girl orphaned by war and taken in by three witches who forbid her from using her powers for revenge. The production combines shadow puppetry, actors in silhouette, vintage overhead projectors, and live feed cameras to create a film projected in real time on a large screen above the performers. An original live score is composed by Ben Kauffman and Kyle Vegter. The show explores themes of grief, war, tyranny, and generational conflict, and is recommended for audiences ages 12 and up.
