As the lights came up in Nashville Children's Theatre's Ann Stahlman Hill Theatre at the conclusion of Return to Sender a?" the world premiere production of Marisela Trevino Orta's adaptation of Julia Alvarez's novel of the same name, now onstage at NCT through October 27 a?" the familiar a?oedinga?? of an alert emanated from my iPhone: A judge had ruled against a Trump administration initiative to refuse entry to immigrants who might find themselves dependent upon public assistance while they pursue their own version of the American dream.
Nashville Children's Theatre (NCT) this week revealed its 2019-20 season replete with rock and roll, history, holiday magic, current events, interactivity, musicals, classics and more. NCT, the nation's oldest professional theatre for young audiences and the largest theatre in Tennessee will perform seven shows during its 2019-20 season, including both world and regional premieres.
Nashville Children's Theatre is at 25 MIDDLETON ST, Nashville, TN.
In 1931 Nashville Children’s Theatre was formed by the Junior League of Nashville as an amateur theatre, opening with a production of “Aladdin and His Wonderful Lamp.”. At that time, the Junior League was fulfilling a commitment to establish children’s theatre in many U.S. cities. For years, NCT performed in numerous local landmarks, including Belcourt Theatre, and at Vanderbilt and Belmont Universities. In the late 50’s, Ann Stahlman Hill undertook the monumental task of creating a permanent home for NCT. Hill had designed sets and costumes for NCT and also served on the theatre’s board for years in the various positions of secretary, treasurer and president. She organized a collection of like-minded individuals, and with her leadership they petitioned legislatures, talked with families in the neighborhood, and persistently fundraised, until NCT had a home beside the Howard School building and Lindsley Hall, opening in 1960.
