Nashville Repertory Theatre, in collaboration with The Nashville Shakespeare Festival, presents the regional premiere of FAT HAM, a Pulitzer Prize-winning play by James Ijames. This modern take on Hamlet follows Juicy, a young Black queer man at a Southern backyard barbecue, as he navigates themes of identity and family following the ghost of his father demanding vengeance. Directed by Mikael Burke, the production combines Shakespearean elements with contemporary language, humor, and music. The cast includes Julian "joolz" Stroop, Tamiko Robinson Steele, and Bakari J. King, offering a poignant and humorous exploration of generational trauma and self-determination.
