Nashville Children's Theatre (NCT) will host Telling Tales: A SHELebration Where the Sidewalk Ends on Thursday, June 2, 2011 - a brand new fundraiser event for grown-ups that features a varied collection of Nashville artists, leaders and performers paying tribute to Shel Silverstein.

Silverstein is best known as an author and illustrator of children's poems, but he also wrote nearly 800 songs for the adult market, and Nashville was an essential locale in his songwriting. It was in Music City where he became friends with Nashville legends like Bobby Bare, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, Harlan Howard, Willie Nelson, and Kris Kristofferson. Some highlights of Silverstein's catalog include: "Boy Named Sue," "The Cover of Rolling Stone," "Daddy, What if?" and "Marie Laveau."

Because of Silverstein's Nashville roots, along with his timeless children's poems, it is a perfect fit
for Nashville's music and theatre communities to come together at this benefit for Nashville
Children's Theatre.

Scheduled Performers include Nashville Mayor Karl Dean, John Seigenthaler, Bobby Bare & Family, Marshall Chapman, Clementyne Howard, Marcus Hummon, Shooter Jennings and Amy Nelson & Family and surprise guests are expected.

Adding to the evening's entertainment will be some of NCT's finest and Nashville's favorite actors:
Jeff Boyet, Rona Carter, Shawn Knight, Jenny Littleton, Marin Miller, Eric D. Pasto-Crosby, Jon
Royal, Patricia Taber, Patrick Waller and NCT producing director, Scot Copeland. Crayon Artist, Herb Williams is designing set pieces and an original promotional poster for the event. Williams will be in attendance to sign posters for sale during the event.

Silent Auction and Cocktail Party at 6 p.m., with the performance at 7:30 p.m. The evening concludes with coffee and dessert.

Only 150 tickets are available and are $100/person. Tickets include all elements of the event and
can be purchased at nashvillechildrenstheatre.org or by phone at 615-252-4675.
