"It’s our anniversary. We’re having fun, remember?" Seeing Red follows artist Frankie and her boyfriend Liam as they celebrate the closing night of her latest exhibition on their one-year anniversary. But as the wine flows, paranoia grows. The evening unravels into jealousy and competing desires, revealing the dangerous impulse to possess what we love.
Performed by a real-life couple, Seeing Red is a feminist play that explores the fault lines of artistic ambition, romantic devotion, and power. At its heart is a struggle between a female artist’s urge to create and a man’s desire to control what was never his to begin with.
Pyrite Theatre presents the dark comedy Seeing Red at the Conservatoire d'Art Dramatique (Salle Multimédia) from June 12–20 as part of the Montreal Fringe Festival.
