(11/27/2013) - Escape the holiday madness and plan a date night to see BORN YESTERDAY, a deliciously witty, screwball comedy about a corrupt businessman trying to get ahead. Harry Brock, a junk-dealer millionaire on the rise, hunkers down in a lavishly decorated hotel room in Washington with his brassy chorus girl girlfriend Billie Dawn in tow. Hoping to influence a senator in some personal business dealings, he soon gets advice suggesting that the seemingly dim-witted blonde will need a little polish to get ahead in D.C. society. Brock hires a newspaperman for the task but gets more than he bargained for when, in a deliriously funny and romantic turn of events, he discovers a little bit of learning can be a dangerous thing. (10/18/2013) - Tuesday, October 22 marks the first day of rehearsal for the Guthrie Theater's 2013 production of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, presented by U.S. Bank. The perennial holiday favorite, now in its 39th year at the Guthrie, features a script by British playwright Crispin Whittell and is directed by Joe Chvala. Chvala is the founder and artistic director of the Flying Foot Forum and has previously served as both director and movement director for the production. Longtime Guthrie actor J.C. Cutler will reprise the role of grubby miser Ebenezer Scrooge. Cutler has been involved in 30 productions at the Guthrie since 1993, including five productions of A Christmas Carol - appearing as Ebenezer Scrooge (2011), Bob Cratchit (1995, 1997), Banker (1996) and Young Scrooge (1993, 1994) - and was last seen on a Guthrie stage in this past summer's original romantic comedy Pride and Prejudice. (10/11/2013) - Children's Theatre Company (CTC) recently launched their 2013-2014 season which includes the world premiere of The Wong Kids in The Secret of the Space Chupacabra Go! by Lloyd Suh. The play is co-produced by the Drama Desk and Obie Award-winning, Ma-Yi Theater Company after four years of collaboration. The process demanded a commitment by two theatres to produce a wildly inventive interplanetary odyssey complete with space creatures and levitating rocks. Ma-Yi's Artistic Director Ralph Pena directs the production this October on CTC's Cargill Stage before taking the show to New York. BroadwayWorld has a first look at the cast in action below!

(10/07/2013) - Baby Case originally premiered at the Arden Theater Company in Philadelphia in 2001 and received four Barrymore Awards including Outstanding Overall Production of a Musical and Outstanding Original Music (with 11 nominations). In 2012 it played at the New York Musical Festival where it received the "Best of Fest" audience prize. Baby Case celebrates its regional premiere at History Theatre in Charles Lindbergh's boyhood home state of Minnesota.

FIDDLER ON THE ROOF last graced the Main Stage in 1993 to mark Chanhassen's 25th anniversary. This time around, the theatres' most widely requested show will mark CDT's 45th anniversary. (09/02/2013) - Ashley Rose Montondo, a graduate of the University of Minnesota/Guthrie BFA program in Minneapolis, was cast into the lead role of Elizabeth Bennett in the Guthrie's summer smash, PRIDE AND PREJUDICE, starring opposite Mad Men star Vincent Kartheiser as Mr. Darcy when the original actor unexpectedly pulled out of the show. It is her first major starring role on the Guthrie stage, though she did have minor roles in a number of prior productions through her college program. Ashley took a few minutes to talk about her experience this summer.

(08/07/2013) - The Guthrie Theater today announced a return engagement for An Iliad, the single-actor storytelling adaptation of Homer's Greek classic about the siege of Troy. The play features Stephen Yoakam (more than 75 Guthrie productions including a lauded turn as Bertolt Brecht in 2012's Tales from Hollywood and as Creon in 2011's The Burial at Thebes) as The Poet and is directed by Benjamin McGovern (The Edge of Our Bodies, Circle Mirror Transformation). An Iliad is written by Lisa Peterson (director of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof at the Guthrie in 2012, as well as this summer's acclaimed production of Clybourne Park) and Denis O'Hare from a translation of Homer by Robert Fagles.
