THE RIGHT THING TO DO: THE JOE MAUER STORY Brings MLB Star’s Story To Stages Theatre Company
The world-premiere musical at Hopkins Stages Theatre features music by Michael Mahler.
A new musical based on the life and values of Joe Mauer is now playing at Stages Theatre Company. THE RIGHT THING TO DO: THE JOE MAUER STORY runs through May 10, 2026 on the Mainstage Theatre.
The production recently welcomed Mauer and co-author Mike Halley, whose work helped inspire the original book by Joe Schmit. The musical features a book and score by Michael Mahler and is directed by Sandy Boren-Barrett.
Adapted for the stage from Schmit’s book, the story focuses on themes of kindness, humility, and decision-making, following a young protagonist navigating choices both on and off the field. The musical incorporates original songs that began as early demos by Mahler and have been expanded into a full stage production performed by a cast of young artists.
Audience response has highlighted the show’s focus on empathy and community, with the production emphasizing small acts of kindness and their broader impact. With a 60-minute runtime, the show is designed for audiences of all ages.
