Milwaukee's First Stage Holds ZUMBATHON for Theater in Education, 5/6

First Stage will hold its first ZUMBATHON for Theater in Education on Sunday, May 6 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Milwaukee Youth Arts Center, 325 West Walnut Street in downtown Milwaukee. Families are invited to take part in this Latin dance party while helping to raise money to support First Stage's Theater in Education programs. The afternoon will include healthy snacks, raffle items, and more.
First Stage Announces Betsy Corry Managing Director

First Stage today annoucned that Betsy Corry, former associate executive director of COA Youth & Family Centers, has been appointed as the new managing director of First Stage. Corry succeeds Rob Goodman, who was the founding artistic director of First Stage and alternately filled the roles of artistic director and managing director for the company's 25-year history. Corry will begin her new position on May 7.

One of Shakespeare's most tragic heroes squares off against literature's greatest villain in a visceral, sexy, hard-driving story of intrigue, betrayal and vengeance, as Iago leads Othello to the edge of jealous madness by sowing seeds of doubt about his wife's fidelity. This classic revenge tragedy comes to life in a modern and edgy adaptation set in the world of motorcycle gangs. This production of Othello will be directed by Artistic Director Mark Clements, the role of Othello will be performed by guest actor Lindsay Smiling, and the role of Iago will be performed by Rep Resident Acting Company Member Gerard Neugent. The Rep's production of Othello is sponsored by Harley-Davidson Motor Company and runs April 3 - May 6, 2012 in The Rep's Quadracci Powerhouse and previews Tuesday, April 3 - Thursday, April 5, and opens on Friday, April 6.

Students of First Stage Theater Academy will participate in its second annual BARD-O-THON on Saturday, April 21 at the Milwaukee Youth Arts Center, 325 West Walnut Street in downtown Milwaukee. Throughout the day, students will perform as many memorized Shakespearean monologues in a row as possible. Performers will include the members of Young Company, First Stage Theater Academy's advanced, pre-professional actor training program for high school students, as well as other Theater Academy students.
