The world premiere of Unheard Voices: Afro-Brazilian Diaspora will illuminate Afro-Brazilian voices while raising awareness of the social, political, spiritual and cultural experiences that compose communities of Salvador, Bahia in Brazil. In association with the Theatre for Social Change class, this multimedia production will address social justice issues while using methods from Augusto Boal’s Theatre of the Oppressed. Each show includes a talkback on the Afro-Brazilian Diaspora featuring University of Detroit Mercy professors and Fulbright Hays scholars from the region.
The audience will be invited to the stage to warm up their bodies and imaginations before participating in some of the scenes and forum events throughout the production.
Serious issues of any diaspora community can be triggering. Please be aware this show is addressing sensitive content and may use adult language.
