Magenta Giraffe Theatre Company is thrilled to announce our November and December "Drop In and Pay What You Can" workshops! No reservations needed, no commitment; just stop by, have an actor workout, and network with other local professionals. Each three-hour workshop is designed for the theatre professional who never knows when he or she might have rehearsal... or a callback... or a paying job! Description of Workshops:

Monologue Coaching: Refine your audition piece in a safe, supportive environment! Students will have the opportunity to present a monologue of their choice to be directed, coached, and polished. Monologue books will also be available for those students still in search of the perfect audition material.

Audition Technique- Two Contrasting Pieces: We've all read the audition notice asking for "two contrasting pieces". But how can we be sure we are choosing material that shows us at our best? Students will come prepared to present two monologues; both pieces together should not exceed three minutes. This workshop will take the guesswork out of constructing the well-rounded audition.

Introduction to Psychological Gesture: Frustrated by acting techniques that leave you feeling trapped in your head or creatively stifled? Psychological gestures might be your solution! You'll learn how to use active verbs to create physical gestures that will connect your mind and body. Drawn from Michael Chekhov technique, this workshop will introduce you to a new, refreshing way of acting.

Voice/Verse- Kamikaze Linklater: This workshop will focus on the techniques of the amazing Kristin Linklater, author of Freeing the Natural Voice and Freeing Shakespeare's Voice. Students will explore voice, diction, how to eliminate long-held vocal habits, and how to develop an organic relationship to text and dialogue.

The Actor's Imagination: Have you ever gone onstage feeling stiff, awkward, or unimaginative? Have you been coached to "get out of your head"? We're bringing back this popular workshop from June to help you out! The actor who is creative, imaginative, and physically unbound stands out and gets noticed at
auditions; this workshop will re-teach the adult actor how to "play"! Come
dressed ready to move in loose, comfortable clothing (as if you were going
to a yoga class).

Subtext: Acting Between the Lines: Dynamic, interesting acting comes from the development of a rich and active "inner life". Every character has an inner monologue that colors his/her behavior; this workshop will focus on how the actor constructs that inner monologue. Come explore the vast difference between what we conceal, and what we chose to reveal.

Kamikaze Movement for Actors: This workshop will focus on the physicalization of Body, Effort, Shape, Space, and Relationship; all the ingredients necessary to constructing believable characters. We will explore how movement heightens emotion to create higher stakes in scene work.
