A bit of Broadway comes to the American Red Cross Berkley Donor Center on Friday, March 20, 2009. On that day, every presenting donor at the Berkley center will receive two free tickets for “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” playing at the Fisher Theatre March 17 through April 4.

Presenting donors will also have the chance to meet “Sweeney Todd” cast members who will be on site from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The American Red Cross Berkley Donor Center is located at 28105 Woodward (Catalpa). Donations hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Appointments are strongly recommended and may be made by calling 1-800-GIVE-LIFE.

“Sweeney Todd” is based on a 19th century legend of a barber who forms a “cutthroat” partnership with a woman who soon is making the tastiest meat pies in London.  The award-winning show, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, first appeared on Broadway in 1979 and was revived on Broadway in 2005.  The national tour’s stop at the Fisher Theatre is the Detroit premier. For ticket information and show times visit www.BroadwayInDetroit.com or call 800-982-2787.

The simple act of donating blood has the potential to save up to three lives when the platelets, plasma and red cells are separated and given to three different patients. Every day, accident victims, cancer patients and individuals undergoing surgery need life-sustaining blood.   Every day, the American Red Cross needs donors to step up, roll up their sleeves and donate.

How to Donate Blood

To schedule an appointment to donate please call 1-800-GIVE-LIFE (1-800-448-3543) for more information. If you are at least 17 years of age, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and are in good general health, you may be eligible to donate blood. All donors need to present positive identification.
