ARSENIC & OLD LACE Comes to St. Dunstan's Theatre in Bloomfield Image

St. Dunstan's Theatre presents Joseph Kesselring's Arsenic and Old Lace. Filled with colorful characters and witty plot twists, this quirky comedy classic is one for the ages. Mortimer Brewster is living a happy life: he has a steady job as a drama critic at a prominent New York newspaper; he's just become engaged; and he gets to visit his sweet spinster aunts to announce the engagement. He always knew his once elite family bloodline had a bit of a mad gene (his brother believes himself to be Teddy Roosevelt). But his world gets turned upside down when he realizes his dear aunts have been poisoning lonely old men for years! At the same time, his long-lost homicidal brother, Jonathan, turns up with his phony plastic surgeon, Dr. Einstein. Mortimer is torn between covering up for his kin, wanting to marry the woman he loves, and maintaining his own sanity. An uproarious farce that results in a mix of laugh-out-loud hilarity and mayhem.

This production is directed by Jeff Davison (Bloomfield Hills), and features Andrew Catterall (Ferndale) as Mortimer Brewster, Peggy Lee (Lake Orion) as Aunt Abby, Janie Minchella (Sterling Heights) as Aunt Martha, Molly Dorset (Birmingham) as Elaine Harper, Sean Kecskes (Waterford) as Teddy, Chris Steinmayer (Waterford) as Jonathon Brewster, and Anthony Marsalese (Bloomfield Hills) and Nasir Khawaja (Southfield) as Dr. Einstein. Rounding out this talented cast is Rob Grodin (Huntington Woods) as Dr. Harper and Mr. Witherspoon, Michelle Ankoviak (Waterford) as Brophy, Daniel T. Muldoon (Madison Heights) as Klein, Al Rosie (Birmingham), Hoggie Amare (Troy) as Rooney, and Mark Walters (Birmingham) as O'Hara.

Davison is a familiar face around St. Dunstan's and has directed and stared in many shows. He is excited to be taking on the challenge of directing this classic show, saying "I've been in this classic comedy twice and I've always wanted the opportunity to direct it with some newer interpretations while keeping it set in the era it was written. I'm very thankful St. Dunstan's has given me this chance."

St. Dunstan's will present Arsenic and Old Lace on January 25, 26, and February 1, 2, 3, 8, 9, and 10. All shows begin at 8:00 p.m, except for the Sunday performances on the 3rd and 10th which begin at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $20 each for adults and $18 each for students and seniors. St. Dunstan's is located at 400 Lone Pine Road in Bloomfield Hills.
