Join us at GLAZER HALL for a rare opportunity to experience Emanuel Ax, one of today’s most celebrated pianists in an intimate setting and witness the timeless brilliance of Schubert and Chopin brought vividly to life.
Born to Polish parents in what is today Lviv, Ukraine, Ax moved to Winnipeg, Canada, with his family when he was a young boy. Ax made his New York debut in the Young Concert Artists Series, and in 1974 won the first Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Competition in Tel Aviv. In 1975 he won the Michaels Award of Young Concert Artists, followed four years later by the Avery Fisher Prize.
Widely regarded as one of the world’s foremost classical musicians, Ax has enchanted audiences for decades with his profound musical insight, dazzling technique, and deeply expressive performances. A Grammy Award-winning artist and longtime Sony Classical recording artist, he has appeared with the world’s leading orchestras and in the most prestigious concert halls across the globe. His remarkable career continues to inspire audiences from New York’s Carnegie Hall to stages throughout Europe and Asia.
For this special recital, Ax presents a program of Romantic masterpieces that showcase the piano’s poetic beauty and emotional power. The evening opens with Franz Schubert’s tender and melodic Piano Sonata in A Major, D. 664 followed by his lyrical and deeply moving Four Impromptus, D. 935. After intermission, audiences will be transported through the rich musical landscapes of Frédéric Chopin, featuring the majestic Polonaise-Fantaisie, the shimmering Barcarolle, the beloved Nocturnes, Op. 27 Nos. 1 & 2, and the virtuosic Scherzo No. 2 in B-flat Minor.
Whether you are a devoted classical music enthusiast or discovering these masterpieces for the first time, this recital promises an evening of beauty, elegance, and inspiration.
