Tomasz Jedrowski's acclaimed LGBTQ novel Swimming in the Dark is brought to life as an opera in a developmental staged concert at The Studios of Key West. This adaptation features music composed by Martin Hennessy and a libretto by Stephen Kitsakos, showcasing a cast of 18 artists from Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music Opera & Ballet Theater. Set in the politically charged atmosphere of 1980s Poland, the opera tells the story of Ludwik and Janusz, two young men navigating love and identity amidst societal upheaval. Directed by Michael Shell, this performance reveals the poignant intersection of passion and politics, underscoring the cultural importance of queer narratives in today's landscape.
