Tony Winning God Of Carnage At Orlando Shakes

By: Oct. 19, 2011

CASTING ANNOUNCED FOR TONY WINNING COMEDY GOD OF CARNAGE

Playing Now - November 13, 2011
in the Goldman Theater at the Lowndes Shakespeare Center

Orlando Shakespeare Theater in Partnership with UCF (OST) announced that Rus Blackwell, Mark Ferrara, Anne Hering and Suzanne O'Donnell will duke it out this fall in GOD OF CARNAGE, playing Now through November 13, 2011 at the Lowndes Shakespeare Center. Yasmina Reza's 2009 Tony Award-winning play, under the direction of Mark Routhier, pits two high-strung couples against each other in a 90-minute brawl hailed as a "four-way prize fight" by The New York Times.

Alan Raleigh (Blackwell) and his wife Annette (O'Donnell) visit the apartment of Michael (Ferrara) and Veronica Novak (Hering) for what they believe will be a civilized discussion about a playground fight between their two sons. The meeting degenerates into irrational arguments and the loaded topics of misogyny, racial prejudice and homophobia. Insults fly, spouses turn on spouses and new alliances are created in this theatrical event The New Yorker called "ninety minutes of sustained mayhem."

Originally Le Dieu du Carnage in French, Reza's play was first produced in English in London in March 2008 where it won the Olivier Award for Best New Comedy. GOD OF CARNAGE also enjoyed critical acclaim on Broadway, playing for 476 performances and winning the Tony, Outer Critics Circle and Drama League awards for Best Play. A film adaptation, directed by Roman Polanski and starring Jodie Foster, John C. Reilly, Kate Winslet and Christoph Waltz, is currently in production in Paris.

The artistic team also includes Robbin Watts (Scenic Designer), Denise R. Warner (Costume Designer), Kevin Griffin (Lighting Designer), Britt Sandusky (Sound Designer) and George Hamrah (Stage Manager).

GOD OF CARNAGE is made possible by LarsonAllen LLP. Orlando Shakespeare Theater in Partnership with UCF is supported by United Arts of Central Florida with funds from the United Arts campaign and by State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs and the Florida Arts Council.
