present The Yedra-Chruszcz Duo 30th Anniversary Recital

The Symphony of the Americas, Maestro James Brooks Bruzzese, Artistic Director, and Rose Miniaci, will present the gala 30th Anniversary celebration recital performance of the highly acclaimed Yedra-Chruscz Duo on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at 8:15 pm, at the Amaturo Theater of the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.

Cuban-American pianist Velia Yedra and violinist Bogdan Chruszcz (concertmaster of the Symphony of the Americas) celebrate 30 years of performances on stage in this gala recital evening, featuring the music of Beethoven, Brahms, De Falla, Gershwin, Kreisler and more.

At the time of her acclaimed Carnegie Hall debut, the New York Times hailed Velia's "impressive precision" and "vibrant, spotlessly clean performances." She has appeared often as a soloist with the Orquesta Sinfonica de Venezuela, Orquesta Sinfonica Sociedad Filarmonica de Mexico, Florida Philharmonic, Sinfonica de Maracaibo, Symphony of the Americas, Festival Miami, Amigos Canarios de la Musica, and Orquesta Sinfonica del Peru, among others. She is a graduate of The Manhattan School of Music and also holds a Doctor's degree from the University of Miami. An active proponent of Ibero American music, Velia has premiered major works by classical composers of the Americas and Spain. She recently released a landmark recording of the complete volume of Cuban Dances by Ignacio Cervantes -Adios a Cuba

Polish born violinist Bogdan Chruszcz began his musical career in Caracas where he studied with Emil Friedman and Henryk Szerying. He is a graduate of the University of Miami, a recipient of the Fromm Fellowship in Tanglewood, Chruszcz is the founding Concertmaster of the Florida Philharmonic Orchestra, currently Concertmaster of the Symphony of the Americas, and has served under the baton of such renowned conductors as Aaron Copland, Igor Stravinsky, Leonard Bernstein and others. His career encompasses live performances and recordings with classical and popular artists such as Luciano Pavarottti, Isaac Stern, Celia Cruz, Julio Iglesias, and Frank Sinatra.

The Symphony of the Americas takes a leadership role in fostering cultural relations with the Americas, initiating musical exchanges throughout Europe, the US and Central/South America. Its performance home, the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, hosts its five-concert 2009-2010 Guest Artist Symphonic Series.
