PRE-SEASON HOLIDAY DELIGHT, HANS CHRISTIAN ANDERSEN'S

BELOVED FAIRY TALE "THE STEADFAST TIN SOLDIER" TO BE PRESENTED BY THE PLAYGROUND THEATER AT MIAMI BEACH'S

BYRON CARLYLE DECEMBER 6-23 & COLONY JANUARY 11-14

Bringing live theater to the young people of our community in a unique and totally professional manner, The PlayGround Theatre, acknowledged as South Florida's most adventurous theatrical company for young people, will provide a joyous treat for the holiday season, when Hans Christian Andersen's THE STEADFAST TIN SOLDIER, opens December 6, at 10 A.M. at the Byron Carlyle Theater, 500 71st Street, Miami Beach.

The temporary move from its originally announced home in Miami Shores was dictated by a delay in the theater's renovations. Following its run at the Byron Carlyle through December 23, the play, directed for young people ages 3 and up, will be presented, January 11-13 at the Colony Theater, 1040 Lincoln Road. From May 12-15, the play will be presented at the Broward Center's Amaturo Theater in Ft. Lauderdale, as part of the SEAS Program. Directed by Vyatcheslav Dolgachev, THE STEADFAST TIN SOLDIER will include PlayGround favorites Melissa Almaguer, Edgar Caraballo, Jeff Keogh, Daniel Lugo, Amy Cozette San Pedro, Jesús Quintero, and Ricky Waugh.

Acknowledged as one of Andersen's magical fairy tales which through generations have enchanted youngsters throughout the world, THE STEADFAST TIN SOLDIER takes its place among such legendary fables as "The Emperor's New Clothes," "The Princess and the Pea," "The Little Mermaid," and "The Ugly Duckling." Artistic Director Stephanie Ansin said, "The play created an artistic challenge that demanded new and innovative staging, and a new translation adapted by award-winning director Vyatcheslav Dolgachev. Sets and costumes are by award-wining designer Margarita Demianova, lighting by S. Ryan Schmidt, and sound by Daniel Suarez.

In addition to THE STEADFAST TIN SOLDIER, the PlayGround will introduce two new plays; a production of Pulitzer Prize finalist Sarah Ruhl's "The Clean House,"( for adults) and what is anticipated to be the major highlight of the season, a contemporary version for the whole family of the Lewis Carroll classic, "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland."

THE STEADFAST TIN SOLDIERwill open at the Byron Carlyle Theater, 500 71st Street, Miami Beach, on Thursday, December 6 at 10am. Additional performances Friday, December 7 at 10am; Saturday, December 8 at 3pm, Sunday, December 9 at 3pm; Tuesday December 11 at 10 am; Wednesday, December 12 at 10am; Thursday, December 13 at 10am; Friday, December 14 at 10am & 4pm; Saturday, December 15 at 3pm; Sunday, December 16 at 3pm; Tuesday, December 18 at 10am; Wednesday, December 19 at 10am; Thursday, December 20 at 10am; Saturday, December 22 at 11am and 3pm; Sunday, December 23 at 3pm. Dates at the Colony Theater 1040 Lincoln Road, Miami Beach are: Friday, January 11 at 10am and 4pm; Saturday, January 12 at 3pm and 7pm; and Sunday, January 13 at 3pm. Performances as part of the SEAS Program at the Amaturo Theater at the Broward Center are Monday May 12 through Thursday May15 at 10am and 11:30am.

Behind the Curtain Workshops for THE STEADFAST TIN SOLDIER are December 8 & 15 from 10am to 1pm at the Byron Carlyle Theater. Children will learn the inner workings of production including sets, lighting, costumes, choreography, music, and rehearsal. Enrollment is $70 per child and includes 2 tickets to a performance of the play. Parents are welcome to join the fun.
