The Athens Theatre Presents EVER AND ALWAYS... HAYDEN, 5/29

By:

The Athens Theatre and Volusia Honor-Air presents a fund-raising performance of EVER AND ALWAYS... HAYDEN on Saturday, May 29th to benefit Flight 6, which allows World War II veterans a one day trip to Washington, D.C. to pay tribute at the World War II Memorial. The doors open at 6:00 p.m. with classic newsreels and the performance begins at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $10 and it will be held at the Athens Theatre (124 N. Florida Avenue, DeLand).

EVER AND ALWAYS... HAYDEN tells of the story of Hayden Hughes, a B 17 pilot during the war in Europre. Hayden, a twenty-six year old graduate of the University of Iowa, and newly married to fellow Iowan Betty Bedow, writes of his tour of duty and through these letters comes this play.

Lake Helen resident Michael Hughes, Hayden's nephew, and a thirty-five year veteran of Chicago's vibrant theater community, will play Hayden in this production.

The three Rotary Clubs in DeLand, Florida joined forces to organize the first Volusia Honor Air flight. Our mission is to extend our deepest appreciation and gratefulness to our WWII heroes for their bravery and sacrifice by escorting as many ambulatory World War II veterans as possible to the new World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., at no costs to those veterans.

World War II Veterans quite literally saved the world from domination by the forces of Hitler's Third Reich, Mussolini's Italy and the Empire of Japan. Risking their lives, they did so bravely and with honor. Their accounts are surely marked,"Paid in Full". Volusia Honor Air seek to honor them and give them this fleeting opportunity to visit the great city they saved and the memorial built in their honor. Visit their website at volusiahonorair.org for more information.
