Fresco Productions and The University of Miami Department of Theatre Arts will present a new musical, RECONSTRUCTING MAMA, Book by Stephen Svoboda and Music by N. David Williams From July 26th – July 29th at the Hecht Studio Theater on the University of Miami campus.  Lyrics are by both Svoboda and Williams.   The production will be premiering here in South Florida before moving to New York City for a two-week showcase from August 9th - 19th at the Kirk Theater at Theatre Row.

From the writer of Odysseus Died from AIDS and The Penguin Tango, Stephen Svoboda, and world-renowned pianist, N. David Williams, comes a musical journey of self discovery, forgiveness, and new love told through the poetry of Rumi, the magic of puppetry, and with a wicked sense of humor.

Reconstructing Mama is a comedic musical spin on the dynamics of dysfunctional families.  Set in Westchester County over the course of one night, Reconstructing Mama chronicles one family's attempt to redefine themselves in the wake of their mother's death.  The children come together after their mother's funeral to reminisce and come to terms with their mother's mental illness. The play is a living tribute to Svoboda's own childhood.

The cast includes Jonathan White, Ariana Shore , Lauren Connolly, Danny Marr and Chris Teutsch.  The production is directed by Stephen Svoboda with musical direction by N David Williams. Costumes and Puppets are designed by Michiko Kitayama, Set and Lighting designed by Tim Brown, and Choreography by Randall Pollard.

Stephen Svoboda is currently a professor in the Theatre Arts Department at the University of Miami where he teaches directing and playwriting, and is the Artistic Director of Miami's Fresco Productions. His play Odysseus Died from AIDS, was developed in Miami and received its world premiere at the New York International Fringe Festival, where the production was awarded "Best Ensemble." The play was recently published in the anthology Plays and Playwrights 2005, by the New York Theatre Experience, and received its international premiere in 2007 in Athens, Greece.  His most recent play, The Penguin Tango, premiered at the 2006 New York International Fringe Festival in The Actor's Playhouse.  The production was extended as part of the FringeNYC Encore Series in the Lion Theater at Theatre Row.

N. David Williams is the music director for the University of Miami Department of Theatre Arts and the Ring Theatre, as well as the music director of Maximum Dance Company and the general music director of Music Theatre Bavaria . Mr. Williams is a well-known classical pianist and accompanist who works throughout the world. His professional musical theatre credits include: Guys and Dolls; Working; Snow White; I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change; Damn Yankee; The Fantasticks; Music Man; Jack the Ripper; Inside Out and numerous other shows. He has served as guest pianist with the San Francisco Ballet, Florida Grand Opera, and the Miami City Ballet.
