Pulitzer'd Topdog/Underdog 'Barks' in Little Havana

By: May. 19, 2006

Ground Up & Rising presents The Collective's performance of
Suzan-Lori Parks' Topdog/Underdog, awarded the 2002 Pulitzer Prize
for Drama.

The play opens on May 19th and runs until June 4th. This production will be staged at the Camera Obscura Performance Space in historic Little Havana. Show times will be 8 PM on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and 2 PM and 7 PM on Sundays.

This darkly comic fable of brotherly love and family identity is
Suzan-Lori Parks' latest riff on the way we are defined by history.
The play tells the story of Lincoln and Booth, two brothers whose
names were given to them as a joke, foretelling a lifetime of
sibling rivalry and resentment. Haunted by the past, the brothers
are forced to confront the shattering reality of their future.

In addition to being staged at New Yorks renowned Joseph Papp Public
Theatre, Topdog/Underdog was subsequently produced on Broadway under
the direction of George C. Wolfe.

Directed by Carbonell-winner John Archie, Topdog/Underdog features
Carbonell-nominee Sheaun McKinney and Bechir Sylvain.
