New Emerging Cultural Leaders Program

An Orientation Ceremony will be held on Wednesday, August 20, 2008

Broward County Commission's Broward Cultural council has chosen fifteen young professionals to participate in a new initiative-Emerging Cultural Leaders Program. An orientation ceremony to welcome the fifteen individuals to this brand new program will be held on Wednesday, August 20, 2008, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the Broward County Main Library, 6th Floor, Bienes Ceremonial Room, 100 South Andrews Ave. in Fort Lauderdale. The program will take place over a two-year period.

Selected are: Laura Aker, Barbara Barber, Luiz Bravim, Kristyn DeRosa, Tonya Seavers Evans, Eliza Gomez, Evelyn Hale, Michelle Heethawakage, Clara Kashar, Naisha Nicholas, Abena Osei, Scott Sherven, Nerissa Street, Charlotte Sundquist and Stanley Zamor.

This Broward Cultural Council program aims to cultivate Broward County's next generation by focusing attention on individuals who have the will and desire to develop cultural leadership skills. The initiative presents an excellent way for young professionals to enhance their leadership skills, build relationships with business and community leaders, and productively contribute to civic life, cultural development, and gain recognition within the community.

The Broward-based program targets professionals between 21 and 40 years of age, who have an interest and desire to advance the mission of the Cultural Council. Over a two year period, participants are provided leadership development opportunities to increase their understanding of the ways that cultural organizations build community and enhance quality of life.

Upon acceptance into the program, participants are required to attend a series of meetings and workshops to help them gain understanding and knowledge of the Cultural Industry. There will be quarterly meetings and networking events and participants will receive assignments to one or more of the Broward Cultural Committees and/or assignments in areas such as advocacy, artists Hall of Fame, arts education, finance, cultural diversity, executive committee, planning, public relations, micro credit committee and global arts and culture. Participants who successfully complete the program are provided opportunities to assist in the implementation of cultural programs and committee work.
