NBC 6 to Broadcast Only Live TV Debate in Florida's U.S. Senate Race

NBC 6 South Florida will televise the only confirmed Florida Senatorial Debate during the 2012 election season, pitting Florida's incumbent U.S. Senator Bill Nelson (D) against Republican challenger U.S. Representative Connie Mack.

The live broadcast will take place on Wednesday, October 17 at 7pm. This historic debate will be carried exclusively on NBC 6 in the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale market.

"With the battle for control of the Senate at stake, NBC 6 is proud to offer viewers live broadcast of this debate which will serve to educate voters on key issues that will impact their lives and the future of our state," said Manuel Martinez, NBC 6 President and General Manager.

Under the "Decision 2012: Before You Vote" umbrella, the program is produced by the partnership of Leadership Florida and the Florida Press Association.

"'Decision 2012: Before You Vote'" provides millions of Floridians with an important opportunity to get to know the candidates and their views on critical issues," said Susan Towler, Chairman of Leadership Florida and Executive Director of Community Affairs for Florida Blue.

Originating from Nova Southeastern University in Davie, Florida, the debate broadcast will be moderated by Michael Williams, anchor for the NBC affiliate in West Palm Beach. The debate sponsors and partners include host site Nova Southeastern University, Florida Blue, the League of Southeastern Credit Unions, AARP and the Claude Pepper Foundation. The live broadcast will be carried in all 11 television markets in the state of Florida.
