MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET Comes to the Van Wezel, 12/13
Miracle on 34th Street will be presented at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall on Tuesday, December 13 at 7:30 pm by the Barter Theatre.
“Miracle on 34th Street is a traditional celebration of the magic that is Christmas and will warm the heart of any cynic. It’s truly perfect for the entire family,” said Richard Rose, producing artistic director of Barter Theatre.
A favorite holiday tale by Valentine Davies, made famous by the 1947 movie of the same name, Miracle on 34th Street is the heartfelt story of the year. When a white-bearded gentleman claiming to be the real Kris Kringle - aka Santa Claus - goes on trial he brings about a genuine miracle, spreading a wave of love throughout New York City and convincing a divorced single mother, her somber daughter, a courthouse and the entire state of New York that magic is possible when we believe!
The story has been made and remade several times, but, as Rose said, “one of the best parts of this version is the fact it’s a musical! Even though this story is familiar, a new twist is added because of the music.” The performance includes tunes like “’Tis the Season,” “This Is What I Live For,” “Just Imagine,” and “I Believe in Miracles.” The music and inspiration of this story reminds us that we don’t have to be young to believe in the spirit of Christmas, just young at heart.
Located in historic Abingdon, Virginia, Barter Theatre is one of this nation’s oldest, professional non-profit theatres, celebrating its 78th anniversary of performing quality, professional musicals and plays.
Ticket prices range from $10 to $50. For more information and to buy tickets, contact the Van Wezel Box office at (941)953-3368 or log onto www.vanwezel.org
