Roll Into March With These Shows at The Lyric Theatre!

Frank Sinatra Jr

March 7 & 8, 2011 at 7:00PM

Sinatra, an accomplished pianist, conductor and vocalist, has built a solid musical career since he first hit the professional stage at the age of 21. He didn't start out wanting to sing: " . . . I only wanted to be a piano player and a songwriter," he says. "I became a singer by accident. I was in college, playing in a little band. The lead singer got tanked one night. A guy in the band pointed at me and said, "You sing.' I said, ‘Me? Why me?' He said, ‘You're a Sinatra, aren't you? Sing!'"

Although Sinatra didn't work with his father for most of his life, Sinatra, Sr. asked him to conduct for him in 1988, and he continued in this role until his father's retirement: "He brought me in, and I began to learn him," says Sinatra. "I knew the music. I had to learn him. I was with him the last seven years that he worked. It was a wonderful experience, and I miss it like you can't imagine." The young Sinatra studied his father's style carefully, and when he wants to, he can sound uncannily like his dad.

In this touching tribute, Sinatra steps away from his own repertoire to pay tribute to the man who remains a vivid presence in his life. The show includes such signature Sinatra songs as "I've Got You Under My Skin," "One for My Baby," "New York, New York," and "Strangers in the Night." There will also be reminiscences from Frank, Jr. - one of the few who unquestionably knew his father best.
