BROWARD COUNTY , FL – With resounding success in 2004 and 2005, an innovative teacher's and 'others' conference is back. Broward County Cultural Division, the Dillard Center for the Arts and the School Board of Broward County will join together to present the third powerhouse conference on arts integration— Literacy Connections Through the Arts . The conference will be held on Wednesday, August 9, 2006, at the Dillard Center for the Arts, 2501 NW 11th St., Fort Lauderdale, from 7:30 am to 4:15 pm. Final registration is July 30, 2006.

2005 Arts Integration Conference

Literacy Connections Through the Arts is a hands-on, full-day of workshops that focus on literacy instruction through the visual and performing arts. Workshop leaders are both celebrated local teaching artists, and distinguished Kennedy Center-experienced teaching artists. The workshops will create a heightened understanding among all of Broward County's diverse groups, teachers, artists and students, of the power of the arts to facilitate learning in all academic areas. This conference is geared to be a day of insightful workshops, dynamic speakers and professional networking.

The conference, which is free to all teachers, artists, principals, community arts providers, and others who work with children and teens, will consist of 17 interactive workshops. Participants will have the option of taking either two three-hour workshops, or one six-hour workshop. This event is a collaborative effort to expose educators to the use of the arts to help students acquire the knowledge of word order, phrasing, and punctuation that contributes to the meaning of a written sentence. Details on each workshop can be found at www.broward.org/arts/home.htm.

Teachers who attend this conference will receive credit for teacher recertification. Space is limited, so please r egister online at www.broward.org/arts and click on 'workshops,' by July 30, 2006. For further information call Teresa Ford, Cultural Division at 954-357-8007; e-mail teford@broward.org.

Walk-Ins will be welcome on the day; however course selection will be limited to space availability; and certificate accreditations or receipts will NOT be issued to Walk-Ins on that day.
