The Most Comprehensive Arts Integration Conference in South Florida

17 Interactive Workshops to Expand Your Instructional Style

2007 Arts Integration Conference

Broward County Cultural Division, Broward Center for the Performing Arts, Dillard Center for the Arts and the School Board of Broward County, present the fourth annual conference on arts integration—Expanding Literacy Connections Through the Arts: A Closer Look on August 15, 2007. Due to its overwhelming popularity, this year's conference will be held at two venues - Broward Center for the Performing Arts, 201 SW 5th Avenue, and Dillard Center for the Arts, 2501 NW 11th St., in Fort Lauderdale, from 7:30 am to 4:15 pm.

Expanding Literacy Connections Through the Arts: A Closer Look is a hands-on, full-day of workshops that focuses on literacy instruction through the visual and performing arts, directed to teachers and teaching artists. Workshop leaders are celebrated local artists, distinguished Kennedy Center artists, and Loyd Artists (www.loydartists.com), who will offer participatory workshops on how to use the arts to teach and learn literacy and subjects. New this year, are workshops designed specifically for teachers of English Speakers of Other Languages and Exceptional Student Education.

The workshops will create a heightened understanding of the power of the arts to facilitate learning in all academic areas. This conference is geared to be a day of insightful workshops, dynamic speakers and professional networking. The conference is the only FREE event of its kind in Broward County and is a project of the 1993 Kennedy Center Partners in Education Team.

The conference, which is free to all teachers, artists, principals, community arts providers, and others who work with children and teens, will consist of 17 interactive workshops. Participants will have the option of taking either two three-hour workshops, or one six-hour workshop. This event is a collaborative effort to expose educators to the use of the arts to help students acquire the knowledge of word order, phrasing, and punctuation that contributes to the meaning of a written sentence. Details on each workshop can be found at www.broward.org/arts/home.htm. Complimentary breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Space is limited, so please register online at www.broward.org/arts and click on 'workshops.' Early on-line registration is strongly encouraged. For further information call Patricia Zeiler, Cultural Division at 954-357-7321; e-mail pzeiler@broward.org.
