THE BARD IS BACK!

REDUCED SHAKESPEARE COMPANY'S IRREVERENT ROMP

"THE COMPLETE WORKS OF WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE (abridged)[revised]," TO PREMIERE AT THE ADRIENNE ARSHT CENTER IN AN EXTENDED RUN

NOVEMBER 26, 2008 - JANUARY 18, 2009

"The Funniest Show You Are Likely To See in Your Entire Lifetime!"

Montreal Gazette

Following a season that delivered such record-breaking theatrical successes as Slava's Snowshow and Forbidden Broadway, theater buffs, be they square or sophisticated, are in for a comedy treat with the premiere of the internationally acclaimed Reduced Shakespeare Company (RSC) and its famed "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged)[revised]" at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County. The production will play an extended run from November 26, 2008 through January 18, 2009 in the Center's Carnival Studio Theater.

A smash hit in London and across the United States, Shakespeare (abridged) is an irreverent 97-minute race through the Bard's 37 plays performed by just 3 brilliantly versatile actors - including Austin Tichenor and ReEd Martin, the Managing Partners of the Reduced Shakespeare Company. Designed to thrill Shakespeare fans and phobics alike, "The Today Show" reported that "if you like Shakespeare, you'll like this show; if you HATE Shakespeare, you'll LOVE this show." The Miami production will feature the very latest updates to the script that were incorporated in a London revival last year.

UC Berkeley college buddies, Tichenor and Martin launched Reduced Shakespeare Company when they re-connected in 1992 in London. In addition to Shakespeare (abridged), the RSC has created The Complete History of America (abridged), The Bible: The Complete Works of God (abridged), Western Civilization: The Complete Musical (abridged), All the Great Books (abridged), and their latest, Completely Hollywood (abridged.) The company's first three shows ran for nine years at the Criterion Theatre in Piccadilly Circus where they became London's longest-running comedies with more shows running in the West End than Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Along the way, RSC captured nominations for London's Olivier Award, two Helen Hayes Awards in Washington, D.C., and international appearances at the White House, Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, Seattle Repertory Theatre, and American Repertory Theatre. International tours included stops in Israel, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Japan, Malta, Belgium, The Netherlands, Singapore, Bermuda and Barbados.

The "Bad Boys of Abridgement" were recognized for their artful humor when the RSC was a Jeopardy! category in the 2005 and 2006 Tournament of Champions. Viewers in the U.S. have seen RSC perform on NBC's "Today Show," "CBS Sunday Morning," "Entertainment Tonight," and CNN's "Showbiz This Week." National Public Radio audiences have heard them on "All Things Considered," "Weekend Edition," "Talk of the Nation," "Day to Day," "West Coast Live," and "To the Best of Our Knowledge." Shakespeare (Abridged) aired on PBS and is available on DVD, as is America (abridged).

The production is directed by ReEd Martin and Austin Tichenor.  The script is by Adam Long, Daniel Singer and Jess Winfield with additional material by ReEd Martin.  In addition to ReEd Martin and Austin Tichenor, the company in Miami will also include Matt Rippy, Michael Faulkner, and Mick Orfe.
