'A Streetcar Named Desire' Arrives At Seaside Music Theater

D'AMOUR PUTS DESIRE IN STREETCAR AT SMT
Seaside Music Theater gives you one more reason to buy a ticket to see the company's production of Tennessee Williams' explosive drama, A Streetcar Named Desire, which will run October 25 - November 11: Todd D'Amour.D'Amour will play one of the most well-known characters of the stage and screen, Stanley Kowalski, whose drunken, desperate screams for, "Stella!" have echoed through thousands of theatrical productions, one major motion picture, two made-for-TV movies, one opera adaptation, and even a one-man show called Stanley, developed by D'Amour and his sister, Lisa, in NYC.Called "arguably the most accomplished theatrical event of the Off-Broadway season," by Show Business Weekley, D'Amour's Stanley unleashes a man who thinks he's Stanley Kowalski into the year 2006, where he wanders the streets of America searching for Blanche Dubois. SMT's production, directed by Lester Malizia, provides for Mr. D'Amour other fine actors to play with, including Nicole Halmos as Blanche DuBois, Jennifer Semrick as Stella Kowalski, and Derrick Peterson as Mitch.
Actors like Marlon Brando, Kevin Kline, Alec Baldwin and John C. Reilly have played the rugged, abusive Stanley Kowalski. Brando originated the role on Broadway in 1947 opposite Jessica Tandy (as Blanche DuBlois), and the show won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama the following year. Six decades later, the story is still riveting...Stanley and Stella Kowalski are living a comfortable, co-dependent, blue-collar life in New Orleans when Stella's tarnished Southern Belle sister Blanche DuBois pops in for a visit, explaining that she was asked to take a break from her teaching job to calm her nerves. Stanley instinctively suspects that Blanche's story does not add up and that she is hiding something. Her attitude of self-importance disgusts him, but she angers him most by stealing the attention of Stella. Blanche expresses obvious disgust with the "deplorable condition" of her sister's modest home but she hides a pretty deplorable condition of her own that is revealed much later in the play, a disturbing truth about the real reason she is there, a truth that ultimately leads to an earth-shattering clash between Stanley and Blanche.

Subscriptions, priced at $109 per adult, are currently on sale, with youth subscriptions priced at $61.
