Theatre Memphis will soon host David Mamet's Pulitzer Prize winning drama Glengarry Glen Ross on the Next Stage. Glengarry Glen Ross is an example of Mamet at his best, writing about small-time, cutthroat real estate salesmen trying to grind out a living by pushing plots of land on reluctant buyers in a never-ending scramble for their share of the American dream.
A masterpiece of American drama, the Theatre Memphis production is directed by Tony Isbell who was recently seen on the TM Lohrey Stage as Salieri in Amadeus. His veteran male-dominant cast includes Jerry Chipman, James Dale Green, Barclay Roberts, Ryan Kathman, John Moore and Nick Kourvelas. New performers to the Memphis stage are Andrew Glenn and Adam Remsen. The only female character is played by Cathy Ng who last performed on the Lohrey Stage in 2001.According to Theatre Memphis Executive Producer Debbie Litch, "This play has relevance to most any business situation - especially sales - even though it is placed in the real estate industry. It touches on "how low do you go" to get ahead. But that seems to be the least of our patrons' worries. There is extremely strong adult language in the script and we are letting our patrons know that and that there is herbal cigarette smoking, too. Current sensibilities just mandate we acknowledge this to our ticket purchasers. This is a strong piece of drama, though, and it has a place in theatre for what it has to say about our culture."Videos
