The Orpheum Announces Summer Movie Series

The Orpheum Theatre announced its much-anticipated 2013 Summer Movie Series on May 1. This year's series, presented for a second year by Orion Federal Credit Union, will commemorate the theatre's 85th Anniversary with the best-loved films of the past eight decades. The series will run from June to August at the Orpheum Theatre.

"As a former Malco Theatre, the Orpheum has a strong connection to movies, so we want to celebrate our history through this year's series," said Orpheum President and CEO Pat Halloran. "For the first time audiences will be able to watch their favorite movies evolve from silent films to 'talkies' to Hollywood Blockbusters over the course of a summer."

Included in the Summer Movie Series are Thursday Night Chick Flicks, Friday Night Classics, and Family Matinees. Notable titles include Orpheum traditions like Gone with the Wind and Casablanca, cult classics like Rocky Horror Picture Show and The Big Lebowski, and audience favorites like Ghost Busters, Pretty Woman, and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.

The Orpheum will partner with many local organizations throughout the series, including Indie Memphis. Indie Memphis will present "Behind the Screen" preceding the Friday Night Classics where exciting guest speakers, film critics, and local filmmakers will share their personal stories and experiences with these films as well as little known facts about film and film history.

"Indie Memphis is excited to join the Orpheum Theatre's Summer Movie Series for a second year," said Indie Memphis Executive Director Erik Jambor. "Our 'Behind the Screen' talks will help give the audience a fresh perspective on some of their most beloved films."

The Orpheum is also proud to announce its 2013 Summer Movie Series Presenting Sponsor: Orion Federal Credit Union. This is the company's second consecutive year to sponsor the Summer Movie Series.

Tickets go on sale Monday, May 6. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for children under 12. Packages of ten tickets are available for $50. Attractive packages are also available for Day Cares, Summer Camps, and employee outings.
