Eighth Annual Orpheum Star Search Held 8/7

August 7, 2010, The Orpheum Theatre will hold its Eighth Annual Orpheum Star Search, showcasing young musical talent from across the Tri-State area. More than 200 contestants auditioned this summer, and twelve finalists between the ages of 15 and 21 were chosen.

On August 7, finalists will have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to perform onstage at the historic Orpheum Theatre backed up by professional musicians. Orpheum Star Search is more than a just a talent competition; it is a chance to showcase the finest young musical talent the Mid-South has to offer, continuing this region's commitment to its rich musical heritage. All of the finalists are awarded $500 Savings Bonds and the Grand Prize winner receives a $3000 Savings Bond, and the opportunity to perform onstage at the Jefferson Awards for Public Service in Washington, DC.

Celebrity judges will be working with finalists, providing stage-performance training. According to Wayne Jackson, of the legendary Memphis Horns, "You're seeing the current crop of regional talent and it's very impressive. I hope this is a reawakening of a community with a rich musical heritage."
The Eighth Annual Orpheum Star Search will take place at The Orpheum Theatre on August 7th at 7:00 p.m. Tickets range from $10-$35 and are on sale now at the Orpheum Box Office, Davis-Kidd Booksellers and all Ticketmaster locations.
