Ogunquit Playhouse Announces 2013 Season

May 22 through October 20, the Ogunquit Playhouse "invites fans to sing, dance, laugh and most of all dream with some of Broadway's most beloved and spectacular shows."

"We are launching our 81st season with one of our most electrifying lineups ever to grace The Playhouse stage," said Ogunquit Playhouse Executive Artistic Director, Bradford Kenney. "We are delighted to bring back for a limited time the two most popular shows in The Playhouse's history - Ballroom with a Twist and Buddy - The Buddy Holly Story. This season is filled with thrills, including fan favorite Sally Struthers returning in what may be her most hysterical and diabolical role ever. And, we are incredibly proud to create the New England Regional premiere of Mel Brook's Young Frankenstein, one of Broadway's most spectacular shows of all time. "

You'll get a kick out of The Rat Pack is Back!, opening the season from May 22 to June 8. This award winning tribute show brings fans back to the era of Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis, Jr., Dean Martin and Joey Bishop at the Sands Hotel's famed Copa Room in Las Vegas. Featuring a combination of pitch-perfect music, a twelve-piece swing orchestra on stage and side-splitting comedy, the show highlights classic songs like "Fly Me To The Moon," "New York, New York," "That's Amore" and many more, as only Frank, Sammy and Dean can perform them.

On stage from June 12 to July 6, Sally Struthers returns in the Tony Award winning Best Musical Thoroughly Modern Millie. It's 1922 and small-town girl, Millie Dillmount, heads to New York City to start a new life. Millie finds herself in a city filled with intrigue, jazz and a whole new set of rules for love! Her new flapper lifestyle encounters trouble when she checks into a hotel owned by a dragon-lady villainess audiences are sure to love to hate - played by none other than Ogunquit's favorite, Sally Struthers. This musical comedy, based on the Mary Tyler Moore, Julie Andrews, Carol Channing film, opened on Broadway in 2002 and garnered 6 Tony Awards including Best Musical. A new glittering set design along with the Tony Award winning costumes will be featured in the Ogunquit production. Musical theatre has found a new heroine for the ages - Thoroughly Modern Millie!

IT'S ALIVE! And it's hilarious! Mel Brooks' Musical Young Frankenstein hits the stage July 10 to July 27. This musical comedy is a wickedly inspired re-imagining of the Frankenstein legend based on Mel Brooks' film masterpiece. The story follows young Dr. Frankenstein (that's Fronkensteen) as he attempts to bring a corpse to life, but not without scary and hilarious complications. Don't miss the kooky cast of characters delivering all your favorite moments from the classic film - hunchback sidekick Igor (that's Eye-gor), curvaceous lab assistant Inga, stern housekeeper Frau Blucher, madcap fiancé Elizabeth and of course, the tap dancing Monster. Ogunquit will recreate the Broadway production complete with the Tony nominated sets by Robin Wagner and the William Ivey Long original costumes. With eye-popping special effects and all new show-stopping numbers including, "The Transylvania Mania," "He Vas My Boyfriend" and "Puttin' On The Ritz," you'll have a monstrously good time!

The Playhouse is going Technicolor with Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's irresistible family musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat from July 31to August 24. The Biblical saga of Joseph and his coat of many colors comes to vibrant life in this delightful musical parable. Joseph, his father's favorite son, is a boy blessed with prophetic dreams. When he is sold into slavery by his jealous brothers and taken to Egypt, Joseph endures a series of adventures in which his spirit and humanity are continually challenged. The musical, set to an engaging crazy quilt of musical styles, from country-western and calypso to bubble-gum pop and rock 'n' roll, includes the popular songs "Go, Go, Go Joseph" and "Any Dream Will Do." This Old Testament tale emerges both timely and timeless filled with surprising humor for adults and dazzling delights for children. Go, go, go get your tickets today!

Ballroom with a Twist is back by popular demand for one week only, August 27 to August 31! If you can't get enough of "Dancing with the Stars," "American Idol" and "So You Think You Can Dance" this is your chance to take your obsession to the next level. Ballroom with a Twist features celebrity pros from these talent-based reality TV shows in a frenzy of sizzling dance numbers spanning the hot moves of samba, waltz, foxtrot, quickstep and jive. It is a spectacular dancing and singing extravaganza that is fun entertainment for the whole family. Last year was a complete sell-out, so get your tickets early!

More than fifty years ago, on musical changed theater forever and continues to mesmerize audiences today. West Side Story is on stage from September 4 September 28. From the first note to the final breath, West Side Story soars as the greatest love story of all time and remains as powerful, poignant and timely as ever. Buddy, The Buddy Holly Story, the most popular musical in Ogunquit Playhouse history, returns by popular demand to close out the season from October 2 to October 20! The fantastic 2012, critically acclaimed cast returns, starring Kurt Jenkins as Buddy Holly.
