Down East Readers Deem Public Theatre Best in Maine

The Public Theatre, located in downtown Lewiston, was named Best Theatre in this year's Best of Maine Down East issue. Down East readers and editors selected their statewide favorites this year and The Public Theatre was the top choice for theatre in Maine, making it a destination for theater lovers across the state."This is a huge honor", says Artistic Director Christopher Schario, "both for The Public Theatre and Lewiston/Auburn. We're very proud the theatre was acknowledged in this way and that we've been given this opportunity to shine a positive spotlight on our community. Over 40% of The Public Theatre's annual audience of 16,000 comes from beyond Androscoggin County, and I believe this award demonstrates the theatre's impact and contribution to the cultural life in Maine."The Public Theatre is a professional Equity theatre dedicated to producing Broadway quality theatre for the people in Maine at an affordable price.
