Cast of Penobscot's RING OF FIRE Set for Writers' Ring, 9/27

By: Sep. 16, 2015

For one night only, the five actor-musicians who comprise the cast of Penobscot Theatre Company's Ring of Fire: The Music of Johnny Cash will perform their own musical works in Writers' Ring, Sunday, September 27, at 7:00 pm, at the Bangor Opera House.

"The idea for this special show was born during a Ring of Fire rehearsal break," explainsRing musical director and actor Andrew Crowe, whose vocals and diverse instrumental talents have wowed early audiences of the theatre's season opener. "We were passing the time and one of us started picking and singing something he wrote, then someone else shared an original piece, and before we knew it, a theme took shape!" Songs will cross genres to reflect various sources of inspiration, offering something for music lovers of all stripes.

In addition to Crowe, who sings, fiddles, drums, and plays guitar and harmonica in Ring of Fire, Writers' Ring will feature cast-mates Ira Kramer (vocals and guitar), Ashley Marie Lewis (vocals and guitar), Jeremy Sevelovitz (vocals and guitar), and Gaylen Smith (vocals and bass).

"The collective talent of this remarkable group of artists is off the charts," said Producing Artistic Director Bari Newport. "They're extraordinary musicians but also very strong, generous collaborators. Watching them share a stage is sheer joy!"

Tickets are $10 each and may be purchased online under the Box Office tab at the theatre's website, www.penobscottheatre.org, or by calling (207) 942-3333.
