Walden Theatre Kicks Off Steinbeck Tribute with OF MICE AND MEN Film & Play 9/13

Walden Theatre kicks off its season with a stage adaptation of John Steinbeck's classic novel, Of Mice and Men. This season, Walden is participating in a unique partnership with the Kentucky Opera and others to offer community-wide Steinbeck events.

FILM SCREENING @ WALDEN THEATRE: This Sunday, September 13 @ 5:00pm, a FREE screening of the classic 1931 film version of Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men will be held at Walden Theatre, 1123 Payne Street, in partnership with the Kentucky Opera.

WALDEN THEATRE PRODUCTION: Walden Theatre opens its 2009-2010 season with the theatre adaptation of Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men, running September 24 - October 3 @ Walden Theatre, 1123 Payne Street. The play tells the story of George and Lennie, the man-child with a dangerously powerful body who is fascinated with soft things. The two men work on a ranch to earn money for a farm that they will hopefully own one day. But their hopeful plans are brought to a crashing halt when Lennie causes a fatal accident. A tragic chain of events leaves George with a moral dilemma about his friendship.

Under the direction of Walden Theatre's Artistic Director Charlie Sexton, the cast includes Jacob Lyle (Trinity HS), John Tamplin (DuPont Manual HS), Ian Jackson (Home School), D.J. Nash (St. Michael School), Jake Nichols (Louisville Collegiate), Audrey Shircliff (DuPont Manual HS), Chris Hammon (Saint Xavier HS), Sebrand Warren (DuPont Manual HS), Chris Lockhart (Waggener High School), Dion Kohler, Jr. (Home School ).

Performances of the play will run September 24, 25, 26 and October 1, 2, 3 at 7:30 pm. Matinees on September 26 and October 3 are at 2:00 pm. Tickets are now available. Adult tickets are $15. LECTURE, PORTRAYAL OF AFRICAN-AMERICANS IN 1930's AMERICAN LITERATURE, WITH PROF. David Anderson: On October 3, 2009 @ 5:30pm (between matinee and evening performances of Of Mice and Men), Walden Theatre will host a lecture from University of Louisville Professor David Anderson entitled The Portrayal of African-Americans in 1930's American Literature. The lecture will be followed by a brief reception. Admission is FREE.
