Before Rent, there was Tick, Tick... BOOM!, the autobiographical musical by Jonathan Larson, the Pulitzer and Tony Award-winning composer of Rent.
Set in 1990, Tick, Tick... BOOM! is a eureka moment sandwiched between rock music and whimsy, telling the story of a writer's sacrifices made to achieve his big break in theatre. With three actors playing ten characters, Tick, Tick... Boom! takes you on the journey that led to a Broadway blockbuster.

Matt Tierney* (Jonathan) is back at the Diversionary, baby! National tour of The Golden Gays. Off Broadway: Bum Bum (New York Times Plays to See), A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Seussical, Beauty & The Beast, Joseph & Marsha. Matt’s done a slew of Off Off shows, some being good. Matt co-hosts a podcast called Hate Watch HQ with Brooke Falls, and a Baddies recap podcast with Brooke Falls, Precious Angel, and Timmy Marston called Baddies on the Mic. @TheMattTierney

Timmy Marston (Michael) is gorgeous - but he’s also an actor, singer, dancer - in or out of six inch pumps. With his family’s roots in San Diego, Timmy is excited to be making his Diversionary Debut! Some past shows include Les Mis and In The Heights at the Woodminster Amphitheatre. Be on the lookout for his drag persona Una Momento. Timmy co-hosts a Baddies recap podcast with Brooke Falls, Precious Angel, and Matt Tierney called Baddies on the Mic. Come take a listen! @Timo0thy

Maddy Le (Susan) is thrilled to be making her Diversionary Theatre debut! She sends thanks to her supportive family and friends, cast and crew, and her wonderful team at Henderson Hogan. Swing
Kay Saltonstall (Swing) is an actor, singer and occasional drag performer, key word occasional. Their booking fee is egregious. Most recently seen as Chris in “At the Silver Moon Open Mic”, Kay is also a frequent face at The Green Room 42 and in NYC’s cabaret scene. Offstage, they are a loving parent to their snake Mango and can’t seem to leave on time but are always the first to show up anyways. Some might say she has a rested and assured tone. Kay refuses to give comment on the rumors at this time. Insta: @kaysaltonstall

Cassidy Kaye (Director) is an arts advocate focused on using the arts as a tool for advocacy and social change. Founded in 1986, Diversionary Theatre is recognized as one of San Diego’s best theatres, and proudly showcases the most vibrant and diverse group of talent the city has to offer. We aim to foster and amplify the next generation of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and other marginalized voices by providing the local community with live entertainment in a dynamic, inclusive, and welcoming environment that celebrates and preserves our unique culture. Diversionary Theatre began as a forum to shed light on the important social issues affecting the quality of life of LGBTQ+ people, namely the AIDS crisis and its immediate and devastating impact on the community through the performing arts.
