Tiago Rodrigues, By Heart at Nimoy Theater

“… so deep, so intelligent and so magnificent that we came out of it profoundly moved… Rodrigues is a poet, a seer, and an artist that drives us, without any safety net, through the slippery paths of memory and poetry, of the meaning of literature and death, of theatre.” — Le Figaro

Inspired by his grandmother’s journey to blindness, during which she asked family to select poems for her to memorize before she lost her sight, Tiago Rodrigues’ international hit By Heart invites audiences to spend an intimate evening learning and sitting with the written word. Rodrigues, a Portuguese playwright and actor, invites ten audience members onto the stage and teaches them a poem. As Rodrigues unpacks the poetry, he unspools connections between the poetry, his grandmother, and the work of other writers, creating a tapestry of storytelling, both personal and universal.
