PSYCHOPOMP brings to life mythic creatures who support our journey through the unknown towards an unforeseeable future. They are those mythic and magical creatures from every culture and creed who are tasked to ferry souls between worlds, to support and guide us through profound transitions. Meet Vanth from Etruscan mythology, the Nordic Valkryies, the Aztec Xolotl, the Grecian Charon, Ox Head/ Horse Face from China, and Quantum Cat, a spin on the Cat Sith of Celtic lore.
In PSYCHOPOMP, each of these guides is brought to life with innovative specificity that charms, provokes, or comforts. As participants move through successive stations, ranging from the silly to the solemn, they will be encouraged to attend to their surrounding environs with heightened sensory awareness, cultivating a greater appreciation for the park and their own present tense. The experience is designed as a meditative journey that will elevate personal awareness of both exterior and inner landscapes. We bow in homage to the panoply of cultures represented through these psychopomps and, as artists, we wield our carving tools of creativity to reimagine these creatures in the context of our modern moment.
