On Brittany Howard's solo debut, the Grammy Award-winning singer seemingly incorporates every sound she heard as she made her way across the USA. From the Grammy-winning Stay High to the grace-driven gospel of He Loves Me to the alarm-sounding soul of 13th Century Metal, its a tour-de-force thats both broad in scope and intensely personal, united by the range and power of Howards voice. Singer and songwriter Jamila Woods rose from the Chicago poetry scene to create earthy and soulful R&B. On her latest album, LEGACY! LEGACY!, she pays tribute to writers and artists of colorfrom Zora Neale Hurston to Jean-Michel Basquiatin a way that Pitchfork says marries political commentary with deep introspection. As both a producer and singer, Georgia Anne Muldrow has expanded the horizons of jazz, soul, R&B, and hip-hop, most recently on her 2020 album as Jyoti, Mama, You Can Bet!
