This show is not done very often in community theater due to many props and special effects. But when done right, (which it will be), it's a brilliantly funny play, written by the late great Noel Coward. I'm so glad I took on the challenge as this has turned out to be a great show with a very very talented cast. We had one of the largest turnouts for auditions as many said they were so happy that a local theater was finally doing this great show..."Madame Arcati" - a dream role for them. We had about 40 people audition with only 7 roles. The cast is amazing with great chemistry! You won't want to miss PVPN's live production of Noel Coward's infamously funny play, Blithe Spirit. When Blithe Spirit first opened in the West End in 1941, it held the record for the "longest production runs of non-musical British plays". PLOT: British socialite and novelist Charles Condomine, in a desperate attempt to gain inspiration for a new book he is writing, invites local medium and clairvoyant, Madame Arcati to his house to conduct a séance. The scheme backfires when Madame Arcati inadvertently summons Charles's first wife, Elvira, who has been dead for seven years. Only Charles can see or hear her and his current wife, Ruth, does not believe that Elvira exists and thinks that Charles is losing his mind. But after experiencing some bizarre occurrences (thanks to Elvira), Ruth accepts the strange truth. Elvira makes continued and desperate attempts to disrupt Charles and Ruth's marriage and then things get complicated. And what follows is a darkly funny competition between two women, one dead, one living, as they battle for the possession of their husband.... So, if you're looking for a fun night out, come see Blithe Spirit at Westview Middle School in Willowbrook, IL. You'll be glad you did!
