The Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts will again be the place for classical music on Los Angeles' Westside when Winter @ The Wallis returns for a second season of exhilarating performances. This year, Winter @ The Wallis adds a series of world-class jazz programming to its roster of classical music offerings beginning with the Brubeck Brothers Quartet on January 20 and ending with jazz legend Eddie Palmieri and his Latin Jazz Septet on March 30.
New this season, Classical KUSC's Brian Lauritzen joins Winter @ The Wallis to moderate on-stage Q&As with select classical music artists in the Bram Goldsmith Theater from 7:00pm - 7:30pm prior to the performances. Patrons will also enjoy special offerings of wine tastings and pairings byThe Henry Wine Group while listening to Lauritzen's lively discussions with such featured artists as the newly reformed JACK Quartet; pianist Joyce Yang, the youngest medalist of the Van Cliburn International Competition; the Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson Trio, who are celebrating its 40th anniversary; and Ralph Kirshbaum and Shai Wosner, who will perform Beethoven's complete works for cello and piano over two evenings.
"The Bram Goldsmith Theater is acoustically one of the great halls in the country and a wonderful space to experience live chamber music," said Paul Crewes, The Wallis' Artistic Director. "For the current season, we decided to mix it up a bit and bring in some wonderful jazz performers to add to our remarkable roster of classical music artists participating in our winter series. JACK Quartet

The JACK Quartet was recently described by The New York Times as "a vital force in the new music world" and The Boston Globe hailed them as "superheroes of the new music world." The newly reconfigured ensemble will introduce Los Angeles to its two new members. Violinist Austin Wulliman and cellist Jay Campbell join violist John Pickford Richards and violinist Christopher Otto.
Founded in 2007, JACK has become an important ensemble with a reputation for adventurousness and championing new work. JACK has performed music by composers including John Luther Adams, Caroline Shaw, Steve Reich, Matthias Pintscher and John Zorn, among others. The Wallis program includes work by Morton Feldman, Julia Wolfe, Derek Bermel, Iannis Xenakis and Ruth Crawford Seeger.
The Brubeck Brothers Quartet

The Brubeck Brothers Quartet will launch the jazz component of the Winter @ The Wallis series with a tribute to jazz legend Dave Brubeck. The Brubeck Brothers Quartet is an exciting jazz group featuring two members of one of America's most accomplished musical families-Dan Brubeck (drums) and Chris Brubeck (bass and trombone). Guitarist Mike DeMicco and pianist Chuck Lamb complete this dynamic quartet. They have performed at concert series, colleges, and jazz festivals across North America and Europe.
Joyce Yang

The youngest ever medalist of the Van Cliburn International Competition, Joyce Yang showcases her colorful musical personality in solo recitals and collaborations with the world's top orchestras and chamber musicians. Yang will dazzle audiences with a varied program featuring both classic and contemporary works-from Schumann and Debussy, to Granados, Ginastera and Carl Vine-that will also put the spotlight on The Wallis' beautiful Steinway grand piano and the Bram Goldsmith Theater's sparkling acoustics.
The Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson Trio

After four decades of international success, the Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson Trio's performances continue to dazzle audiences and critics alike. Since making their debut at the White House for President Carter's 1977 Inauguration, pianist Joseph Kalichstein, violinist Jaime Laredo and cellist Sharon Robinson have set the standard for performance of the piano trio literature, consistently bringing technical mastery, expressive depth and magnetism to the concert stage.
Ralph Kirschbaum & Shai Wosner: Beethoven

Famed cellist Ralph Kirshbaum, whose live recording in London's Wigmore Hall of the all-Beethoven Sonatas and Variations was recently released on Onyx Classics, will be joined by pianist Shai Wosner, who returns to The Wallis after his acclaimed Bridge to Beethoven concert with Jennifer Koh in March 2016. Over two nights in the Bram Goldsmith Theater, Kirshbaum and Wosner will tackle the complete works of Beethoven for cello and piano. Join us at The Wallis for this unique Beethoven immersion. Colburn Piano Extravaganza featuring Jean-Yves Thibaudet

The Wallis continues its partnership for the third year with the internationally acclaimed Colburn School located in downtown Los Angeles. The Colburn School, whose renowned faculty prepares exceptional young musicians for careers in music, will present an all-piano concert recital featuring Colburn School Artist-in-Residence Jean-Yves Thibaudet with students from the Colburn Conservatory of Music and Colburn Music Academy.
Eddie Palmieri: Latin Jazz Septet

Eddie Pamieri's Latin Jazz Septet will close out Winter @ the Wallis with a powerhouse performance guaranteed to melt those winter blues away. Eddie Palmieri, known for his charismatic power and bold innovative drive, has a musical career that spans over 50 years as a bandleader of Salsa and Latin Jazz orchestras. With a discography that includes 36 titles, Mr. Palmieri is a NEA Jazz Master and has been awarded nine Grammy Awards. A true powerhouse of brilliance known for his astute arranging skills and historic compositions, Mr. Palmieri has shown that time is infinite with respect to his repertoire as he continues to thrill audiences with his legendary style.
