Quiara Alegria Hudes, Colman Domingo, & Larry Charles to Pen THE CLASSIC FILM PROJECT at Hero Theatre; to be Performed 9/7
On September 7, 2013 for two benefit performances, HERO Theatre presents "The Classic Film Project." "The Classic Film Project" consists of scenes inspired by classic films. They will be presented live and written by Quiara Alegria Hudes (Pulitzer winning "Water By the Spoonful" and "In the Heights"), film/TV director and writer Larry Charles (Borat, Bruno, Curb Your Enthusiasm), Colman Domingo (Public Theater's "Wild With Happy"), Susan Blackburn Award-Winner Jennifer Haley, Luis Alfaro, Ricardo A. Bracho, Juri Henley-Cohn, Francesco DeSantis, Tamar Halpern, Danny Hoch, Carmen Rivera, Ethan Sandler, Candido Tirado and Annie Weisman. Directors include Michael-John Garcés, Yetta Gottesman, Diane Rodriguez and Tina Sanchez. The scenes will be performed by members of HERO Theatre's acting ensemble alongside special guest artists.
"The Classic Film Project" will be presented at the Mack Sennett Studios in Los Angeles on September 7, 2013 for two performances, then later in New York City. The Mack Sennett Studios was built as a silent film studio in 1916 by legendary film producer Mack Sennett. Charlie Chaplin, Martin Scorsese, David Lynch and Fatty Arbuckle are amongst the artists that have worked there.
Olympia Dukakis is Chair of HERO Theatre's Advisory Board. Other members include Michael Ritchie (Artistic Director of the Center Theatre Group), Jenny Gersten (Artistic Director of the Williamstown Theatre Festival), Bill Rauch (Artistic Director of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival), esteemed directors Michael Wilson and Lisa Peterson, playwright Migdalia Cruz and casting director Judy Bowman.
