New Musical 'Dreamchild' in Reading at Palos Verdes
Where is the element of wonder in us all?
That's the question posed by Dreamchild: A New Musical, an adaptation of Dennis Potter's 1980 film by the same name. "Dreamchild tells the story of Alice Hargreaves, the woman who served as the inspiration for Lewis Carrol's children's book, 'Alice in Wonderland,' and the events which take place when she visits New York City in 1932. Haunted by her childhood memories, Alice must confront her past while dealing with a very prying and wondering New York," explain press notes.
Hunter Bird (Book) and Vinny Stodder (Score) are presenting this collaborative effort as their Senior Thesis Project at Palos Verdes High School. But they are not alone. The pair has been aided by acclaimed director and dramaturg Kristin Hanggi (Ovation Award (Director) bare: A Pop Opera; Director of 2007 Fringe Festival winning show Catch the Fish) who has helped them develop Dreamchild to its current state. Future plans include possible submission to the upcoming Los Angeles Festival of New American Musicals.
The show will be presented as a Staged Reading on December 14 and 15 at Palos Verdes High School. More information can be found at www.dreamchildthemusical.com
