FOOL IN THE POOL Returns for Limited Residency at El Condor Restaurant in LA
Directed by Cecilia Fairchild, the immersive karaoke play stars Edward Kiniry-Ostro at the iconic LA landmark.
After a successful run at last year's Hollywood Fringe Fest, Fool In The Pool relaunches this Spring and Summer. Before the iconic El Condor bar closes its doors later this year, it will host four provocative performances of this much-buzzed-about play. Directed by Cecilia Fairchild (Adult Book Club, Jumbo's Clown Room), and written by and starring Edward Kiniry-Ostro (Zoey 101, It's Always Sunny), the show premieres on Monday, May 18th, with one performance a month running through August.
Fool tells the story of a has-been child star turned karaoke host who's forced to confront his troubled past when his former producer kills their comeback dream. Featuring a live karaoke band, Fool offers an immersive, multimedia musical experience with classic songs and video elements that weave together story and visuals. What begins as a high-energy karaoke night quickly reveals itself to be something far more layered.
For its debut run in last year's Hollywood Fringe Festival, Fool was nominated for an Encore Producers Award. Never one to rest on his laurels, Kiniry-Ostro decided to take the opportunity to build upon the show's success and inject a fresh vision for this new iteration. He says, "The relationship between El Condor and Hollywood is inextricably woven, making it a perfect setting for the show. We're stoked to continue developing this piece at such a celebrated L.A. landmark."
Fairchild adds, "Edward's play is filled with thrilling dynamics: fun and destruction, superficiality and depth, humor and pathos. It has been a great pleasure to explore this terrain together and, particularly in this iteration, to examine the intimate relationship between performer and audience."
Produced by Tianna Cohen (Broadway at the Bourbon Room), the show features a live band and ensemble known as the Kaydettes, including Dani Reynolds ("Mama Kaydette"), Jud Rodgers ("Robbie Kaydette"), Lelah Simon (Bass), Max Bauhof (Drums), and "Smiley" Perez (Guitar). Music direction is led by Saahas Patil, with technical direction by Henry Parker-Elder. Editing done by Diana Lopez, Ross Constable, and Shelly Rose ("Moonage Daydream"). Original songs are written by American Award winner Alana Da Fonseca, with costumes by two-time Emmy winner Marco Marco.
At once playful and piercing, Fool in the Pool is a dark comedy that uses the familiar joy of karaoke to explore deeper questions of validation, control, and survival. There's nothing like a fun night of karaoke to wash down Hollywood's epic sadness.
Tickets start at $25. A limited number of VIP tickets at $30 will be available to audience members who want to be part of the show and sing live with the band.
Immediately following the performance, drinks will continue to flow, and audiences are invited to stay for a post-show karaoke party.
