The Long Island Music Hall of Fame (LIMHoF) announces the appointment of Tony Award and Emmy Award nominated actor John Tartaglia to its Education Advisory Board. This board helps carry out LIMHoF's wide-ranging education mission, which includes awarding scholarships, recognizing Educators of Note, and creating special programs offered in the schools and libraries of Long Island.

John Tartaglia created, executive produced and starred in the popular Disney Channel musical series Johnny and the Sprites, for which he received an Emmy Award nomination. He is also the creative force behind the Drama Desk Award-nominated, Off-Broadway family musical hit John Tartaglia's ImaginOcean (www.imaginoceanthemusical.com) which opened March 2010. The show runs on several Royal Caribbean cruise ships and goes on national tour this fall to over 30 cities.

A 12-year veteran of Sesame Street, Tartaglia is one of the youngest puppeteers ever to perform on the show, starting at age 16. In addition to his work on Sesame Street, he starred in Sesame Workshop's innovative English as a Foreign Language project, Sesame English, which currently airs worldwide. Tartaglia appeared on Disney Channel's Bear in the Big Blue House and JoJo's Circus; and Discovery Channel's Animal Jam.

Tartaglia's Broadway credits include his critically-acclaimed Tony Award nominated role as Princeton and Rod in the musical, Avenue Q, as Lumiere in Beauty and the Beast, and as Pinocchio in Shrek the Musical.

LIMHoF' Vice Chair Tom Needham said, "The Long Island Music Hall of Fame is so excited to be working with one of America's most unique talents, John Tartaglia, who has an unbelievable track record of success on Broadway and television. His outstanding understanding of children's entertainment will be an invaluable asset to us as our organization starts to develop educational programs for our upcoming museum."

In joining the advisory board, Tartaglia said, "I am excited and honored to be part of the Long Island Music Hall of Fame and share its goals to inspire the celebration and exploration of music for future generations. I grew up in a musical family -- my mom, dad, grandmother and grandfather all performers -- and they gave me unconditional support to explore my creativity, which I believe every single child should be given the chance to have."

The Long Island Music Hall of Fame Education Advisory Board is chaired by Tom Needham and is comprised of Steve Burns (Blues Clues), Carole and Paula (TV's Magic Garden), DMC (Run DMC), Johnny Juice (Public Enemy), Jimmy Rosica (The Very Cool Music School), and Dan Zanes.
