The Weekend Theater Off Broadway Presents GOOD PEOPLE, 9/7

By:

The Little Theater Off Broadway Presents GOOD PEOPLE, By David Lindsay-Abaire, running September 7, 8, 14, 15, 21, 22.  On Fridays and Saturdays, curtain times are at 7:30 p.m.  For special Sunday showings (Musicals only) curtain times are at 2:30 p.m.

Receiving a Tony Award nomination for Best Play, Good People is set in south Boston, the blue-collar neighborhood where Lindsay-Abaire himself grew up. He offers us both his quiet, three-dimensional depth and his carefully observed humor in this exploration of life in America when you’re on your last dollar. This fine, small, heartfelt work shadowboxes with social darkness in a safely lit room, floating on a vast sea of unsaid things. Good people traffics in themes of class, money, race and luck (particularly the bad kind). The play follows Margie Walsh, a struggling single mother who is laid off from her job at a dollar store. During the course of the play, Margie tries scrounging for a living, hangs out with bingo buddies, and seeks out an old boyfriend. Lindsay-Abaire displays particular skill at making Margie and the other same-only-different characters jangle their crossed wires while recognizing The Common ground they share. His drama's distresses occur because bad things happen within these good people.
Directed by Andy Hall.

The Weekend Theater is a non-profit theatrical community that produces socially significant plays for the central Arkansas community. Our story dates back to 1993 to a production staged at a local church.

Today, though, our intimate theater is located in a wonderful, comfortably remodeled two-story building at the corner of 7th and Chester streets in Little Rock. For theater-lovers, the setting is decidedly New York in character - apartments upstairs, theater downstairs, pizza joint/microbrewery across one street, and the local fire station across the other! And now, the theater is totally smoke-free.
