The Watkins Museum of History, in partnership with Lawrence Opera Theatre (LOT) and the Max Kade Center, invites you to a fun evening of historic German-American song, piano music, and refreshment to mark the closing of the landmark exhibit Community and Culture: The Lawrence Turnverein. This free program is part of the Final Fridays in Lawrence, Kansas and begins at 6:00pm on January 26th.
The program, curated by Lorie A. Vanchena, Academic Director of the Max Kade Center, reflects musical programs offered by German-American organizations in the early 20th century, featuring German Opera, Operetta and Lieder selections by Brahms, Liszt, Strauss, and Lehar, as well as German traditional and folk songs popular in the late 19th Century, and American folk favorites. The ensemble from Lawrence Opera Theatre features: Jen Stephenson Baker, soprano Anna Patterson, mezzo-soprano Neal Long, tenor Brad Baker, pianist with commentary by Lorie A. Vanchena, Max Kade Center.
Refreshments provided by Great Harvest Bread Co. Lawrence and Wheatfields Bakery.
